Common Questions
What should we expect at tryouts?
Team managers and coaches from across the organization will be on-site evaluating players through a variety of skill-based drills. Over the course of roughly 90 minutes, players will be assessed on baseline athletic skills, including throwing accuracy, running speed, defensive fielding, and hitting.
How many tryouts do I need to attend?
Players generally only need to attend one tryout session to be fully evaluated. However, we highly recommend attending the earliest possible date, as roster spots fill up quickly and coaches may finalize their teams early in the process.
How are players selected for a roster?
Roster needs vary significantly from team to team. For example, our established, returning teams may only be looking to fill one or two specific positions, while entirely new teams might be building a core roster and looking for five or more players. Because every coach is building toward specific team goals, there is no single rule of thumb for selection. If your player is offered a roster spot, submitting your commitment deposit check secures their place on the team.
What is the practice schedule and commitment like?
Practice expectations are set by individual team managers based on the age group and competitive level. We highly recommend talking directly with your specific manager to understand their planned schedule and attendance expectations. Typically, most of our teams practice two days a week, and while regular attendance is strongly encouraged for team chemistry and development, we understand families have other commitments.
What does the tournament schedule look like? Will we travel overnight?
Because tournament schedules are customized by each manager, it is best to ask them directly about their specific roadmap—including any planned overnight weekend trips. As a general outline, most of our teams participate in:
Fall: 2 tournaments
Winter: 1 indoor tournament
Spring/Summer: 7 tournaments
Tournaments are generally held on Saturdays and Sundays, with travel distances varying by the team’s competitive tier. Most tournaments are within an hour drive of Pittsburgh.
